Bed bugs are tiny pests that sneakily burrow into various nooks and crannies of New York homes. They’re often picked up during the holiday travel season and can rapidly turn into major infestations.

In Your Mattress

Sounds obvious enough, right? Because bed bugs feed on the blood of their hosts, they’re most often found in places where humans are inactive for a bit of time…in bed fast asleep.

Bed bugs frequently hide in the seams and piping of mattresses and box springs, so if you suddenly notice any discoloration or staining around those areas, these could be signs of bed bugs hiding. Bed bugs don’t necessarily hide on the top of mattresses or in plain sight; they could also be on the bottom of the mattress, so a thorough check is necessary.

In Your Bed Frame

You’re probably familiar with the big red, black, and brown stains on your mattress. Those are bed bug droppings, which means you have a problem in your home. While there are many places bed bugs like to hide, the one most people overlook is their bed frame. Bed frames are made of wood and can provide a good breeding ground for the little parasites. The joints and crevices of the wooden parts make it easy for them to hide during daylight hours before they come out at night to feed on you or your family members while you sleep.

Behind Wallpaper

Believe it or not, bed bugs frequently hide behind wallpaper where they can easily go undetected. If you have any loose, peeling wallpaper in your home and an existing bed bug infestation, it’s quite likely they’ll hide behind it and go undetected.

Behind Picture Frames

Picture frames are a great hiding spot for bed bugs. Not only can they live inside the frame, but if it’s not hung on the wall and you move it around often, it can be easy for them to crawl into crevices within the frame as well as behind it.

In addition to checking inside your picture frames, you should also check behind them. Bed bugs love to hide in corners and tight spaces with little ventilation, so even if you don’t see any bed bugs crawling around in your frame, keep an eye out for any evidence that might indicate the presence of bed bugs, such as droppings or shed exoskeletons.

In Nightstands and Dressers

If you’re looking for places where bedbugs might be hiding, keep an eye out for nightstands or dressers that are close to your bed where they can easily reach their hosts while they’re asleep.

Underneath Carpet

Bed bugs are attracted to dark and hidden places, making it easier for them to hide in carpets. Bed bugs particularly like hiding in corners of rooms. Because carpets can cover up bed bug droppings, it may be more difficult for you to spot the visible warning signs.

Inside Cracks and Molding

Bed bugs tend to hide in cracks behind baseboards, molding, and trim. Make sure there are no holes or gaps where they could sneak through if you find any of these areas lacking caulk, fill them in immediately.
