How to Identify Pill Bugs
Pill bugs, also known as Sow Bugs, are very common in the New York area. They are crustaceans, just like crayfish and shrimp. Unlike crayfish and shrimp, pill bugs live exclusively on land, yet in moist environments. Pill bugs are about ¼ to ½ inch long, oval in shape, and a dark slate grey in color. One of the most recognizable features of a pill bug is that they roll up into a tight ball when disturbed. Many people refer to pill bugs as “rolly pollies” because of this trait.
THE SIGNS OF PILL BUGS
Pill bugs feed on decaying wood. Most infestations are in damp basements, and rarely create a problem with humans. Still, they are not nice to have around.
