Pest of the Month: Common House Spider

Even though the common house spider is pretty much harmless, it’s commonly found in homes all over the country. This nuisance pest might not put you and your family in danger, but that doesn’t mean it’s okay to have dozens of these guys crawling around your home. Here’s some basic information about the most common spider found throughout the U.S.

Breakdown

• Size:
  • Male: 1/8 inch – 3/16 inch
  • Female: 3/16 inch – 5/16 inch
• Color: Yellowish Brown
• Distinguishing Characteristics: Elongated abdomen; several dark stripes meeting at an angle on the abdomen
• Whereabouts: Throughout the U.S.; areas with high humidity and other insects present

What They Infest
The common house spider can be found everywhere across the United States as long as there is a high level of moisture and other insects for it to feed on. The most common areas you’ll find these eight legged pests are in garages, sheds, warehouses, and barns. However, you can also find them in high humidity areas of your home like basements, attics, and around windows.
