How to Remove Cockroaches From the Refrigerator

The refrigerator houses all of your favorite foods and drinks, but they also house one thing you never want to see in your home — cockroaches!

Between the humidity near the fans and motor, and the food crumbs that drop to the floor, your refrigerator is the perfect place to house a cockroach infestation.

Here’s how you should go about removing these pesky pests from your home.

Step 1: Visual Inspection

Perform a visual inspection of your refrigerator and the surrounding areas. Pull the refrigerator out from against the wall, as the underneath is the most common hiding spot. If you find any cockroaches as you look around, take note of any characteristics to try and identify the species so you know exactly what you’re dealing with.

Step 2: Clean the Area

As you begin cleaning your refrigerator’s space, keep an eye out for any egg cases. The presence of these will suggest you have a pretty serious cockroach infestation. Sweep the area, clean the motor of your refrigerator, and empty the condensed water pan underneath the refrigerator. Place all findings in a garbage bag and take it outside immediately.

Step 3: Seal the Envelope

Inspect the area around your refrigerator (and ideally the entire house) and seal any cracks larger than an ⅛ inch with the proper caulking. If there are any openings or gaps around electrical outlets, apply caulk to these areas as well.

Step 4: Prep the Traps

After the cleanup and maintenance has been taken care of, begin placing traps in all of the high-traffic areas where cockroaches are seen most often. These sticky traps do a mighty fine job of refusing to let go of pests the second a leg touches it. Place a few in the areas around the fridge, as well as in areas where you’ve discovered feces in the past.

Step 5: Call For Backup

Any homeowner can kill or remove a few cockroaches from their home. However, without the help of a professional pest management company, the entire infestation might not ever be addressed. The most effective way of removing the entire pest infestation is by hiring a pro that can manage it for you in no time at all!
