How to Keep Spiders Away From Your Home

Arachnophobia is the fear of spiders and a large number of people feel that they have this fear. Even though most spiders are harmless and won’t bite, unless it’s out of self-defense, many people still want them out of their homes. So if you have a fear of spiders, here’s how you can keep them away from your home.

Suck ‘Em Up – Spiders will enter your home with the intent of laying eggs. So if you see a spider in your home there’s a good chance that it has already, or is going to, lay its eggs. Begin with vacuuming your entire home, hitting all of the corners and behind furniture.

In the Dark – Most insects are attracted by the light so any outside lights by entrances act as a welcome mat. Limit the amount of outside lights that are by doors and windows, but if you must then switch to a darker color like yellow or orange. Also, consider keeping stacks of firewood away from the house because spiders will use this as a place to kick their legs up — all 8 of them.

Road Block – It’s common knowledge that spiders don’t just walk in through the front door. So you should be going around your house, inside and out, sealing any cracks, holes, or openings that could be an entryway for spiders. For bigger holes, use wire mesh to cover it and then place the sealant over that.

Pest Control – After doing some preventative maintenance around your house you should call your local pest control company. DIY only goes so far when it comes to pests and infestations. A professional company with a good reputation will be able to offer you a solution to your problems as well as advice on how to deal with any infestations in the future.
