How Halloween Can Lead to Pest Infestations

Halloween is the scariest day of the year! This isn’t just because of the creepy costumes and horror movies on TV — but also because of the increased possibility of attracting pests into your home. This can easily become a terror that will haunt you like a ghost from a paranormal horror movie.

If you’re unlucky enough to have your house egged on Halloween night, there’s a lot you have to worry about. Windows can be broken, siding can be cracked, stains can be left behind, etc. On top of the physical damage, the egg itself can attract bugs and rodents. Once the pests are finished with consuming the egg on your home, they’re only a small hole away from sneaking into the house.

Smashed Pumpkins

Placing a pumpkin or jack-o-lantern on your porch is a classic Halloween decoration. However, a classic prank for kids is to smash those same pumpkins. An ordinary pumpkin is already known for its pest attraction qualities — but a smashed one is even worse. Don’t be surprised if you have rodents and squirrels surrounding the pumpkin (and your home) the following day.

Kids go from door to door in an attempt to collect as much candy as possible. Inevitably, there will be dropped pieces of candy, empty wrappers, and half-eaten pieces lying scattered on the ground. Pests looking for a food source will have a field day when they discover this candy on your property. Make sure you inspect your property for dropped candy (and eggs) before you head off to bed tonight.
