Maintaining your house is a second job that all homeowners must take on in order to have an efficient, clean, and beautiful looking home. Unfortunately, there are many pests that can infest your home and ruin the improvements you make. Here’s how they can affect your home and the hard work you put into it.

Deck
Having a deck attached to your home will provide you with a place to relax, while also increasing the value of your home. Constantly maintaining the deck is necessary, but it can be hard to do when wood-loving insects are on your property. No matter how many times you replace boards or stain the wood, termites will eat away at it. All termites must be removed in order for a deck to be sturdy, safe, and provide an increase in value to your home.

Roof & Siding
The roof and siding of your home must be inspected multiple times per year in order to have a perfectly sealed home. Squirrels are tricky pests that can chew through damaged roofing and siding to gain entrance into your home. Begin your inspections by searching for cracks and holes in your siding and roofing. Afterward, make your way into the attic as this is a common area for squirrels to hide after breaking into your house.

Foundation
The foundation of your home near the crawl space or basement can sometimes crack due to flooding and the ground beneath shifting. Any cracks in the foundation should be patched up using caulking. Sometimes rodents like mice or rats can find there way into your home via these cracks. When patching large cracks and holes in your home, place metal mesh underneath the caulking. This material is hard for rodents to chew through in order to gain access to your home.

There are many species of pests that can affect different areas of your home, it’s up to you to prevent them from doing so. When your home becomes infested with pests, contact Knockout Pest Control. To learn more, or to schedule an inspection, give us a call at (800) 244-7378.
