Stinging Insects You Should Worry About This Summer

Do you remember the last time you were stung by an insect?

We’re sure you do… because we bet it was painful!

In order to avoid being stung this summer, you’ll need to know what your threats are and how aggressive they can be.

1) Yellowjackets

Contrary to popular belief, yellowjackets aren’t as vicious as they’re made out to be. They are the predators of many other, smaller pests. They will consume other insects and use those contents to then feed their larvae.

However, this doesn’t mean they won’t attack when provoked.

Yellowjackets feel threatened most when you attack their nest or swat at them repeatedly. Avoid disturbing yellowjacket nests, whether they’re located in the ground or hanging on a home or shrub.

2) BumbleBees

The most famous of all bees is actually the most pleasant one of them all! These fuzzy bugs are easily identifiable by their hairy and round appearance.

If you see a bumblebee, let it be!

These insects are known for their pollination powers and can help flowers and other plants bloom to their full potential.

Bumblebees won’t sting unless they’re threatened, so if you see one flying near you — calmly walk away and all will be fine!

3) Honeybees

Seeing a random colony of honeybees isn’t very common. However, if you live near a farm (or a person with a lot of time on their hands), you can easily run into a few honeybees when you’re outside.

You can usually tell you’re dealing with a honeybee when there’s a lot of them in a small area. They also have an orange-brown color to them (compared to the usual yellow).

Luckily, honeybees aren’t aggressive — but like all bees, they will attack when threatened. Stinging is usually a last resort for these bees, as they have a high chance of dying once they do sting.
