KNOCKOUT –The New “Always Active” Sentricon Termite Colony Elimination System with Recruit HD
December 29, 2010
Okay, to the non-pest control professional this new product from Dow AgroSciences – the Always Active Sentricon innovation may not mean much…but to home and building owners who have a risk of termite infestation and termite damage this new Sentricon advancement is revolutionary. I sit on Dow AgroSciences advisory board and I witnessed almost firsthand the development of this new system. Knockout Pest Control was the first in the NY area to be certified to use the current Sentricon in ground baiting system, so it was a no brainer, that when the US Environmental Protection Agency granted Dow AgroSciences the approval to implement the Always Active Recruit HD bait, to ask Knockout Pest Control to initiate the “field testing” of the new Always Active Recruit HD advancement with our New York area customers.
Those KATZ on PESTS blog readers may remember my September 10th 2010 posting, where I first mentioned this development. The key to the Always Active Sentricon Termite Elimination System is the new bait Recruit HD. If you’re not familiar with the Sentricon concept; basically devices are placed strategically spaced, in the ground, around a structure. Then wooden bait is placed within the devices. Those devices are monitored routinely by a pest control professional looking for termite activity. Once termite activity is found, the bait is replaced with a specialized active ingredient, a growth regulator, that foraging termites bring back to share with the entire termite colony, where the entire colony feeds upon it, and thereby killing the entire colony. No more termites. A long process, but a simple and extremely affective concept.
Now, Dow AgroSciences has improved on that system. No more wood bait, but a much more palatable bait than wood AND the active ingredient is already in the bait and in the ground from day one. Tests show that termites prefer Recruit HD compared to wood. That means switching out the wood bait with active ingredient is no longer necessary. The new Recruit HD starts working on eliminating the colony right away with the very first termite that brings the first foraged Recruit HD to the termite colony. This new “bait” Recruit HD is better than the previous Recruit IV. Recruit HD is more durable in all soil conditions and it contains 2.3 times more active ingredient; more than enough in one Sentricon device to eliminate an entire colony by itself.
This Always Active Sentricon System in the long run is even better than the current Sentricon Termite Elimination System because it requires fewer monitoring visits by the pest control technicians checking on activity and making sure that the Recruit HD is in good condition and supply.
